Italian Mafia Boss Arrested in Cartagena

The alleged Italian drug trafficker Emanuele Gregorini, known as 'Dollarino' and considered the main leader of the Italian mafia in Latin America, was arrested in the Colombian city of Cartagena, according to police reports on Tuesday.

The director of the Colombian police, Brigadier General Carlos Fernando Triana, announced that Gregorini was captured as part of an operation against drug trafficking. He is linked as the leader of the Lombard Mafia System, which involves the Camorra, Cosa Nostra, and 'Ndrangheta mafias, responsible for sending large shipments of cocaine from Colombia, Panama, and Brazil to Europe.

"This invisible drug lord was wanted in 196 countries through a Red Notice, as a priority for Interpol," mentioned the police chief. The arrest of 'Dollarino' is considered a significant blow against transnational organized crime.

The collaboration between the Colombian police, authorities from the United Kingdom, the Investigative Unit of the Carabinieri of Milan, and the International Cooperation Service of the Italian Ministry of the Interior made the operation that led to Gregorini's capture possible.
